A look back at the 8th Fountaine Pajot Owners’ Rendez-Vous that took place in Martinique last May. This recent Rendez-Vous brought together Owners and Fountaine Pajot Dealers, and also the International Press: Moteur Boat, Neptune Yachting, Cruising World, Voile Magazine, Le Figaro Nautisme, Multicoque Mag and Forbes. The program involved 4 days of cruising interspersed with some great sailing, evenings out and a taste of the Martinique culture.
This sailing-oriented island was the ideal place to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of Fountaine Pajot.
In all, 26 Fountaine Pajot cruising catamarans took part in the event, with owners from all over the world on board: France, England, the United States, Russia, Germany and the Caribbean. The whole Fountaine Pajot Sailing Catamarans range was proudly represented with a fleet made up of its latest models to date: the Lucia 40, the Hélia 44, the Saona 47, the Saba 50 as well as the Ipanema 58. The same was true of the Motor Yachts with the MY 37, catering to the Neptune Yachting and Motor Boat magazines, which came to follow this event and discover the pleasures of a chartered Motor Yacht made available by Dream Yacht Charter.
We would like to thank the Martinique Tourist Board, the Tourism Office and Marina of Le Marin, the conurbation comittee of Espace Sud, the Anses d’Arlet, as well as our Partners Habitation Clément and Les Club Med Les Boucaniers, for their welcome and their commitment.
Fountaine Pajot Owners’ Rendez-vous 2018 – Martinique
4:15 min
The crews arrived at Le Marin Marina in the afternoon and were given a wonderful reception at the start of this 8th Rendez-Vous. The 140 participants were met by the Fountaine Pajot teams with an preliminary briefing, explaining the event’s program as well as navigation details. It was also an opportunity to distribute the “Crew Packs” and gifts for all those taking part. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our partners at this event: Volvo Penta, CGI Finance, Serge Ferrari, Garmin, and the Le Marin Tourist Office for being so helpful.
The evening continued with a welcoming drink for the crews, with a colorful Martinique buffet, generously offered by Le Marin Tourist Office, as well as a tasting session of white rum and old rum from the Habitation Clément.
9 AM, the Fountaine Pajot teams left Le Marin’s pontoons to make their way to the start line of the first one-hour leg of the “Olympic Rally”, supervised by Régis Guillemot. The weather was ideal for this first outing with a wind averaging 15 knots and magnificent sunshine. For the second leg, “The Cruising World Rally”, everyone cast off for the Anses d’Arlet and rounded its quintessential Diamond Rock. Symbolic of Martinique, the Owners enjoyed the spectacle of this majestic rock, sailing downwind, before the finish line at the Anses d’Arlet Bourg.
2 PM, time to rest after some great sailing. A warm welcoming committee waited for the crews on the pontoon of the Anses d’Arlet Bourg, where they enjoyed local food, and learned about the traditional costumes and dances of Martinique.
4 PM, swimming with turtles and anchoring in Grande Anse for this first day’s prize-giving, followed by an evening at the “Ti Sable” beach restaurant.
We would like to thank the municipality of Anses d’Arlet and its inhabitants for this wonderful reception.
6 AM, The Bourg fishermen waited for the Fountaine Pajot crews at dawn, for the traditional Seine fishing. Everyone assisted in the group effort of drawing in the huge Seine fishing net, nearly 400 meters long, to the sound of conch shell horns. The result could be seen by all: large quantities of magnificent fish with a variety of species, caught by the early-morning fishermen, given to the villagers who came to enjoy this event and share their various techniques. We would like to thank the fishermen, municipality and villagers, with whom we ended this wonderful fishing experience with a “Ti décollage”.
12 PM, start of the third and last leg, the “Habitation Clément Rally” heading to the Lô beach, at Club Med Les Boucaniers in Sainte-Anne. Close hauled sailing in a 15-knot wind, interspersed with a few squalls to liven up the return. Well done to all the crews for such good sailing!
6 PM, The day’s prize-giving and awards for all the Fountaine Pajot crews. After a Habitation Clément tasting session, a Habitation Clément gift set, comprising a bottle of old rum, chocolates and jellies, presented in an elegant linen bag was given to everyone, before the Gala night at the Club Med Les Boucaniers restaurant got underway. The evening continued with a display of traditional dancing before the meal, followed by a dance. It was the perfect opportunity to share all the thrills of the day.
Fountaine Pajot Sailing Catamaran owners are internationally reputed to love sailing! We felt it important to learn a different kind of sailing on Martinique Yoles with the best Alizés Yoles champions in this discipline, the crew enjoyed more than just learning this friendly competitive sport, they shared in the experience and the thrill…
We would like to thank all the Fountaine Pajot Owners, Partners and Journalists who took part and contributed to this wonderful event.
