US PREMIERE

What are the advantages of this catamaran which recently joined the Fountaine Pajot range? Below is some feedback from the sea trial by the Magazine Multicoques team aboard the Tanna 47:

“The Tanna 47 replaces the Saona 47. Enjoying the developments of the range in modernity and innovations, this new model favours ease of movement inside the nacelle, optimises the flybridge and offers up to 1700W of photovoltaic cells. A multi-hull built to travel far … and for eco-sailing.”

Fine manoeuvrability, even with a reduced crew

“By keeping the rigging gathered, thanks to a square-top mainsail of 75 m2 and a genoa of an area of 52 m2, the Tanna remains within the capabilities of a couple or a small family crew. The dual helm / steering station also contributes to the general comfort. Forward, all manoeuvres are within easy reach; even the port genoa sheets, along with the port halyard returns of the mast, are directly accessible. With the three Lewmar winches and the ascender batteries, it is quite possible to turn on the fly and take up the slack of the genoa sheet as the catamaran turns. Its helm station is also the focus of the engine and on-board electronics controls. This arrangement also has two advantages: it avoids too great an encroachment into the rear cockpit and maintains communication with the rest of the crew, especially since the access has been well planned. The Tanna 47’s flybridge, barely higher, offers a surface area for relaxing, called the lounge deck, twice the size of that of the Saona 47.”

Wide on-board spaces

“The large cockpit enjoys optimum protection thanks to its encompassing bimini. The table, offset to port, can seat 8 to 10 people. An extension is available. In addition to the seats at the table, a large rear bench and a central chaise longue can be put to good use. The catwalks, three steps higher, are always wider than 73 cm. These outer passages lead to a very large front deck – half hard, half trampoline. Here we find huge storage areas. Moving from the cockpit to the nacelle is, of course, on one level; at first the wide openings are surprising. In addition to the traditional 188 by 78 cm sliding door, the windows enable the kitchen to open to the outside with a 128 by 98 cm moving glass surface. This kitchen is completely original since it has no central island unit, while having a maximum of storage space.”

“The Tanna 47 is certainly a pedigree catamaran. Fast, nautical and comfortable, it has the advantage of being easy to take in hand. No manoeuvre will seem demanding to the crew, who will enjoy a real platform for travelling and living on board. ”
