In 2026, Fountaine Pajot celebrates 50 years of a remarkable human and industrial journey that has helped shape the world of cruising catamarans. Born in the Charente-Maritime region of France from the shared passion of sailors and engineers, this French catamaran manufacturer has grown over the decades to become an internationally recognized name in multihull sailing. Half a century of innovation, craftsmanship, and meaningful connections, driven by an enduring ambition: to imagine new ways of experiencing life at sea.

The Fountaine Pajot story began in 1976, when Jean-François Fountaine, Yves Pajot, Daniel Givon, and Rémi Tristan, soon joined by Pierre Fountaine, brought together their passion for sailing and their technical expertise around a shared vision.
Rooted in the world of competitive sailing, the French shipyard developed a culture of innovation, performance, and maritime excellence from its earliest days. This approach reached a major milestone in 1983 with the launch of the Louisiane 37, one of the first production cruising catamarans designed for comfortable living aboard.
This model opened the door to a new approach to sailing, combining the seagoing qualities of a multihull with living spaces designed for travel, exploration, and making the most of every moment on board.
Over the generations, Fountaine Pajot has continued to anticipate and respond to the evolving expectations of sailors, advancing standards in comfort, livability, and sailing performance.
More than 60 catamaran models have been developed over the past 50 years, each reflecting the French builder’s ability to continually evolve the cruising catamaran while remaining true to the brand’s founding principles.
From its earliest catamarans to today’s models, Fountaine Pajot has continuously reimagined the cruising experience.
Architectural innovations, optimized living spaces, seamless connections between indoor and outdoor areas, and the integration of new technologies have progressively transformed life on board.
Throughout this evolution, one essential balance has remained at the heart of the brand’s philosophy: offering greater comfort and freedom without compromising the pleasure of sailing.
In 2026, this vision is reflected in a major renewal of the Fountaine Pajot Sailing Catamarans range, including the FP41, FP44, FP48, FP51, and FP55. These next-generation sailing catamarans place conviviality, natural light, seamless living spaces, and energy autonomy at the center of the onboard experience.
This commitment to innovation reached another milestone in 2025 with the creation of Fountaine Pajot Yachts, a brand dedicated to larger yachts, reflecting the Group’s expanding expertise and ambitions. From the Samana 59 to the Thíra 80 and the upcoming FPY120 project, this new signature opens up fresh possibilities in luxury catamarans and long-range cruising, combining generous volumes, refined interiors, and an exceptional onboard lifestyle.
This move into larger yachts demonstrates Fountaine Pajot’s ability to respond to changing owner expectations while exploring new horizons in catamaran design and construction.
Today, nearly 5,000 Fountaine Pajot catamarans are sailing around the world, carrying this vision of life at sea far beyond the French coastline.
While Fountaine Pajot has established a strong presence in international markets, its development remains deeply connected to its home region of Charente-Maritime, on France’s Atlantic coast.
In Aigrefeuille-d’Aunis, the catamaran builder’s historic production site since 1978, expertise continues to grow, evolve, and be passed down through generations alongside ongoing innovation. Building on this industrial heritage, the facilities in La Rochelle and Le Thou bring together complementary skills, from engineering and manufacturing to interior craftsmanship.
Behind every Fountaine Pajot catamaran are skilled professionals, specialized expertise, and the women and men who contribute to a shared adventure.
This human dimension remains one of Fountaine Pajot’s greatest strengths. A company that has grown on an international scale while staying true to its family roots, maritime heritage, and commitment to quality.
Fifty years after its founding, these strong local roots continue to drive development, innovation, and the transmission of expertise, while helping showcase French boatbuilding craftsmanship around the world.
Celebrating 50 years of history also means recognizing how far the company has come while looking ahead to what comes next.
With the renewal of its sailing catamaran range, the development of hybrid-electric propulsion solutions, and the growing integration of renewable energy on board, Fountaine Pajot continues to evolve.
Through its ODSea+ initiative, the French catamaran builder is working to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and improve onboard energy autonomy by combining solar power generation, energy storage, and intelligent energy management.
This commitment to advancing the cruising experience goes hand in hand with broader efforts to protect the oceans.
In 2026, the creation of the Fountaine Pajot Foundation, under the auspices of the Fondation de France, marks another important step in the Group’s commitment to three key priorities: expanding access to the sea, raising awareness of ocean-related challenges, and supporting marine biodiversity conservation.
This new chapter reflects Fountaine Pajot’s ambition to contribute to the future of boating, extending its commitment beyond the design and construction of its catamarans.
It is also in its home region that Fountaine Pajot has chosen to celebrate the spirit of its 50th anniversary through a partnership with the La Rochelle International Adventure Film and Book Festival (FIFAV).
This partnership reflects the shipyard’s history and the values that have inspired it from the beginning: curiosity, exploration, shared experiences, and the passing on of knowledge and passion.
Through travel stories, inspiring encounters, and new perspectives on the world, FIFAV celebrates the spirit of adventure that also resonates with those who choose to set sail.
For Fountaine Pajot, supporting this La Rochelle-based cultural event is a way to strengthen its connection to its home region while sharing a deeply held belief: the sea is an extraordinary place for discovery, freedom, and passing on a passion to future generations.
Fifty years after the first sailing adventures that inspired its creation, Fountaine Pajot continues to look toward new horizons. With the same passion, the same collective spirit, and the desire to inspire future generations to experience new adventures at sea.
